I am sure this has already been asked, but...
I just installed an Ohlins steering damper and need to torque down the steering stem nut.
What is the correct torque spec and what size socket, 36mm?
Thanks

CanyonCarver 06-23-2004, 09:09 AM 58 ft lbs and 36 mm. HPower 06-23-2004, 10:39 AM Thanks guys,
No manual yet, my dealer here in Toronto doesn't even have a price on one yet.
I gave it a good tightening with an adjustable just to get going.
When I get home with the correct socket I will apply a little lock-tite and snug it to 58ft lbs.
Thanks :D dnwhoop02 06-23-2004, 12:57 PM yes, it's been asked before, and posted ad nauseam... try the search function.... it's really neat! No problemo, dude. Happy to help. Enjoy. BlackNinja 06-23-2004, 07:12 PM When I fitted my damper the instructions said to torque to 100Nm with the included nut ... I guessed that meant 'tight' :D and got my dealer to torque it properly. NEK 06-24-2004, 11:33 AM Thanks guys,

Click on my link above. jeech 11-12-2004, 12:18 PM the stock steering stem nut is 28 mm. Is the ohlins replacement really 36 mm? The shop manual would be worthless except for the torque spec in this situation. WOODYZX10R 11-12-2004, 12:27 PM My stock nut was a 36mm and my scotts manual said to tighten to 85ftlbs, nut the shop manual says 58ft lbs zx10ragentblack 11-12-2004, 12:35 PM My stock nut was a 36mm and my scotts manual said to tighten to 85ftlbs, nut the shop manual says 58ft lbsSo is it 58 or 85ft. lbs. for the ohlins damper?:dontknow: Big Daddy 11-12-2004, 02:12 PM for fooks sake man WTF is goin on here??
OEM stem nut is 36fookin mm and the torque spec from the OEM manual is 58 fookin lbs no more & no less!!!! i wouldn't give 2 shits what Scotts says to tighten the stem nut as they didn't manuf the bike!!
BTW not directed towards anyone just venting whats correct.
BD WOODYZX10R 11-13-2004, 08:41 AM might have been misunderstood here i only tightened my stem nut to 58ft lbs not what some aftermarket part says too........i figured they transposed a number Andy 11-13-2004, 08:49 AM It's a little late but, moved to tech MAVRIK 11-16-2004, 08:28 AM 58 ft/lbs....if the level of torque goes way above that then two things can happen....once you will strip the nut that you are tightening (it is only aluminum) or two you will be bowing the top triple clamp...not good | |
